Since its opening in 1998 MAD strives to be known for excellence and our innovative approach to all students. The Art of Dance does not only benefit the student who chooses dance as a career, but also the recreational student who will gain self confidence, social interaction skills, physical fitness, poise and an appreciation for the Performing Arts. We take pride in individuality and bringing out the best in each and every student at our Academy. We are confident that every student will have an enjoyable and successful season! We would like to take the time to express our appreciation to everyone who supported the Maple Academy of Dance Inc. in it's 24th season. We are proud to be celebrating 24 years of dance education in the City of Vaughan! Performances Over the years our dancers have participated in numerous events including: Pan Am Welcoming and Closing Ceremonies, Toronto Catholic School Board Angel Foundation for Learning fundraisers, the Smiles of Innocence Memorial Charity Gala, Maplefest, Maple Santafest Parade, Maple Lions Club Pancake Festival, Grand Opening of Vaughan Mills, National Tap Dance Day at Nathan Philips Square, Dance for Orly, Bhai Faith Community Festival, AMC Grand Opening, Vaughan City Concerts in the Parks, Walk for Cancer, Canadian Aesthetics Academy, Half-Time and Opening performances for the Toronto Argonauts, etc. The dancers were also very successful in their competitions at Regionals and Nationals in Myrtle Beach, Disney Florida, New York City, Las Vegas, Atlantic City, Disneyland California and Orlando Florida. Dancer and Faculty Credits Many of our students and staff have become professional performance artists and can be seen on television shows including The Next Step, Backstage, Lego Friends, Splatalot, and So You Think You Can Dance Canada. They have also performed with Madonna, Cirque Du Soleil, A2D2~Aerial Dance Cirque Company, the Canadian National Show Dance Team, the Toronto Argonauts Cheerleading Team and the Toronto Blue Jays Jay Crew. Several of our graduating students have been accepted in prestigious Dance Programs at York and Ryerson Universities (Toronto), Simon Fraser University (Vancouver) and The School of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre/Fordham University (New York). Many of our graduates are now certified teachers and have joined the faculty at Maple Academy of Dance Inc. The Tobi Graham Acro Scholarship The recipient of the Tobi Graham Scholarship is a student who shows enthusiasm, dedication and potential in Acrobatic Dance. This scholarship is awarded yearly in honour of Tobi's love and passion for dance. This year's recipient was Anna Fedosoff. Previous recipients were: Elaina Rooney (2019), Shabby Lashani (2018), Olivia Galati (2017), Anita Seukunian (2016), Sabrina Tucci (2015), Olivia Mitri (2014), Jessica Celetti (2013), Emma Messager (2012), Hannah Gatto (2011), Vanessa Sturino (2010), Jessica Rooney (2009), Annalisa Zaritsky (2008), Alexandra Scarlato (2007), Lorena De Francesco (2006), Roselyn D'Ascanio (2005), Vanessa D'Angelis (2004), Sarah Capetola (2003), Amanda Bomben (2002) and Samantha Buccella (2001). The Robert Guimond Dance Scholarship The recipient of the Robert Guimond Dance Scholarship is a student who loves to Dance and shows it every time he/she steps onstage. Someone who clearly loves performing and being onstage and "Dances Like No One is Watching". The scholarship was created in honour of Mr. Robert Guimond (studio Director's father). This year's recipient was Simona Da Costa. Previous recipients were: Jessica De Filippis (2019), Sofia Racco (2018), Ashley LaMarca (2017), Alexis Sutherland (2016), Catherine Rizza (2015), Alexis Bader (2014), Alana Giambattista (2013), Sierra Ricci (2012), Hannah Richardson (2011) and Chyrelle Guimond (2010).
